Paul Hyland

Paul Hyland is Chief Technology Officer for Editorial Projects in Education, the home of Education Week, Teacher Sourcebook, Digital Directions, and the TopSchoolJobs.org career site.  In that capacity, he is responsible for formulating and executing the organization’s Web strategy, including a growing presence in online community and social media outreach; and he manages its technology infrastructure, software development and integration with web services.  He has spent over twenty years working on computing and Internet technology, as a web developer, information architect, and web technology manager for such organizations as Network Solutions, NASD (now the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority), and the DC Government, as a content production team leader at AOL, and a programmer/analyst at IBM.  Throughout his career, he has also worked to affect the impact of computing technology and the Internet on society, serving on the boards of Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility (CPSR) and the National Capital Public Access Network. He is currently a member of the US Public Policy Council of the Association of Computing Machinery (USACM), serves on an informal advisory group to the Knight Commission on the Information Needs of Communities in a Democracy, and as CPSR’s representative to the Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory Committee. He has an M.A. in Science, Technology and Public Policy from The George Washington University, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Yale University.
